Open letter to Steve J. (Cupertino CA)

    Hi Steve,

We don’t know each other and you probably won’t read this answer to your “thougths on flash” but I really feel to express my point of view about your fight with Adobe.

First of all I would like to apologize as my english was not so fluent these days. I haven’t practiced it in a long time but I think you’ll understand my point anyway…
Just for your information, and to know more about me, I’m a Web Developer for 12 years now and a Mac User for a long long time.

    So let’s start !

    ” First there’s ‘Open’ “

We all agree on the point that Flash is proprietary but how can you qualify it as a “close system” when we look at iTunes / iApps / iStore…
Juste be honest for a minute !!!

When I bought a CS Suite, do I have to ask Adobe to developp an application ? NO !
When my app is developped, do I have to ask Adobe to validate my Code and the aim of my App ? NO !
When my app is working correctly, do I have to ask Adobe to validate it before delivering it to my client ? NO !

So let’s face it, who is really “open” in the End ? If all the development tools and systems at Apple relies on Open source, all the process of creating apps is locked and locked and locked again…

To finish with that, your alternative to Flash is HTML 5, but Steve, be honest again and just click here. Got my point ? HTML 5 is not READY !!!!
We have to trust you and something which is not finish, so let’s face it again, we will develop something that we might start all over again because at the moment NOBODY can say that HTML5 will be…

    ” Second there’s the ‘Full Web’ “

Oh yeah, 50 000 games ! Great ! How many games on Mac ? Do I have to say more ?
Oh yes, just for (no) Fun ! You were never able to propose a good game development platform so you use your mobile devices to “counter strike” were you fail for ages.

” Third there’s reliability and security performance.”

I will not say much about that point as I’m not a security expert.
I will just say that if you are really well protected on the Mac OS Side with your market share, you can’t allow a back door on your major, and more lucrative, success…

     ” Fourth there’s battery life. “

OK, I leave you that one ;)

    ” Fifth, there’s touch “

This one is the biggest joke I ever read… “Most flash websites will need to be rewritten…”
Just read my first point and let’s just say this “When HTML5 will be validate… All apps will have to be rewritten as they were developed before the final validation of their development language”
See my point ? Your argument is just irrelevant, all Object Oriented Actionscript developers will appreciate…

” Sixth, the more important reason “

With this argument you just spit at the face of the OO Developers I just talked.
Once again, and with the sudden apparition of 3.3.1 directive, we have to use your development platforms and your point of view.
Just a question, in case I missed it, can you tell me were I Can find modules to develop in HTML / CSS / Javascript with XCode ?

To conclude I will just says that all the “cool” you always expressed is going to dust.
Back in 1984 when the first Mac hit the ground you used the “Big Brother” image to mark your difference and say that Mac was synonym of freedom…
If think that if at that time your idea was good and sincere, your present actions means just the contrary of that idea and you finally admit that in the end, you are just one more greedy company…

Well Steve, that’s all for now, but I’m sure that your next moves will attract my attention.

    Sincerely,
jeFFF a.k.a. Tisseur de Toile (Web Weaver)
